This small line in the LightSpeed 3.5 release notes quietly announces a long-awaited feature - PIN Debit support in LightSpeed:

Credit Card Processing: Support for PIN-debit and credit card processing via the Ingenico i6580 Titan debit terminal

This development allows retailers to offer another popular payment method to customers. In addition, the i6580 has a dramatic LCD screen and signature capture window. It will be interesting to see how LightSpeed interacts with these features!

The LightSpeed API (or Application Programmer Interface) allows third-party developers or LightSpeed customers with developers on their staff to create add-ons that extend the functionality of LightSpeed.

Once the add-ons are built, LightSpeed customers can keep them internally or sell them to other LightSpeed customers!
